- Does Vocal Exercises to get better at singing - (soda is bad for singing, another exercise is blowing bubbles into a cup)

Goals: IMPROVE MY VOICE through exercises / practice PERFORMING - singing for an audience - especially because its hard during this time.

Mentorship Notes 2

(with Mitchell)

We talked about Smule, a karaoke app. Christian mentioned he used it before, and that it was used a lot by young people when it first came out, but is now mostly used by adults. He thinks that karaoke is good and fun, and that he often doesn't need a mic when singing karaoke in small groups. He also mentioned that he prefers singing along with the original voice of a song, and not necessarily just his voice with the background music.

We talked about the Comfort of performing. He thinks it is possible to build up to singing comfortably in front of a larger group by starting small - 1 person audience, and couple people audience, bigger and bigger audiences until comfortable.

We talked about specific songs he likes and likes to sing:

"Someone You Loved" by Lewis Capaldi - its a great song, catchy. Christian likes Lewis Capaldi because of his voice - it's different and louder than his own.

Ariana Grande - great voice impersonator and she's 27 years old! much older than Christian had thought.

The current goal for Christian is to create a small playlist of songs that he likes and maybe would want to sing.

Mentorship Notes 3

(with Mitchell)

Christian is currently still working on a Playlist of 5 songs he enjoys and would maybe like to sing.

His main goal at the end of these six weeks is to sing in front of a group of people. Singing will be a tool for him to overcome Insecurity.

A mini-goal before the end of the six weeks is to use his reflection video for this week as an opportunity to record himself singing a song, and a chance to 'perform' and so a small audience can provide feedback.

He'll be taking notes on his goals by hand in his journal. He believes that when you do that it will help you to get what you want, or even something better than what you imagined.
"Writing things down in a personal way is like a magic wish."
We shared the sentiment that writing down ideas and thoughts, as well as vocalizing or sharing them with others, is like asking the universe for the things you need. It helps engage the process of coming true.

Mentorship Notes 4

Christian sent over a very diverse Playlist to share for this week.

The song ‘Breathin’ by Ariana Grande speaks to Christian, and she has a very good vocal range.

Edith Piaf sings in French and English. “La Vie en Rose” is a soothing song. She has a calm voice and can hit great notes.

He used to love the “pray for me” by The Weekend, it’s from the Black Panther soundtrack. It has a good beat, and Kendrick Lamar is a great add-on to the song.

These are songs he feels a CONNECTION to. We discussed what that connection to music consists of. For Christian, the connection is about music that conveys an ‘episode of happiness in the future’. We also talked about what it takes to learn how to sing a song. He mentioned it takes 3-4 weeks to remember lyrics. He likes to sing songs to himself (a cappella - without music). His ideally sings while lying down.

Christian is a bit leery about making videos of himself singing. So, a weekly challenge for next week will be to practice his Vocal Exercises every morning (seven days in a row) for 30 minutes. Next Wednesday (August 12) we will discuss what about his singing has changed / improved.
